I visited the flood relief camp in Thatta on the eighth day [Thursday] of my second visit to Pakistan as a visiting midwife teacher.

It started as a normal day at the office, in the classroom with tutorial support for the students' assignments. I had then been invited to visit a brand new state of the art hospital with landscaped gardens, floor to ceiling marble entrance, corion worktops in the laboratory and excellent maternity facility.

Forethought was being given to the quality of the midwifery services to be provided and how to maximise that within the 'welfare population' they serve including future plans for midwifery education. The paradoxes of Pakistan were going to be forced on me in no uncertain terms during the next few hours.
