Pakistan Flood Relief

More than 2000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands stranded by flooding triggered by the annual monsoon rains. The floods affected 20 million people across an area the size of England, sweeping away 2.2m hectares of farmland. The floodwaters have washed away millions of hectares of crops, submerged villages and destroyed roads and bridges. Disease is spreading among Pakistani flood victims, and there have been warnings that dams in the south may burst

 

Across Pakistan, most of the 14 million people who fled their homes in August are rebuilding their lives. According to the UNHCR some 166,000 people are living in 240 camps and roadside settlements, down from 3.3 million in October.


A UN Survey shows almost a quarter of children under five are malnourished in Sindh province, six months after floods.
